Z Zebra

Rounding out our alphabet and our animal unit with Z Zebras! The class has done a beautiful job with the upper case alphabet. Next we're moving on to the lower case letters.

A note on academic impact: after doing these art collages the class has near 100% mastery on naming upper case letters. Only one child continues to need support with upper case letter. Success!

S Snake

Snakes are a regular occurrence here in the jungle. We see snakes slither across our outdoor hallway with some frequency, so the kiddos have a personal connection to them. This was reflected in lots of patterns, smiles, and familiarity.

E is for Elephant

Our E Elephants were not as big of a hit as the other letters so far. The kiddos didn't find it interesting. I think perhaps it might be the color choice? Ideas for future use: read Elmer stories and do a patchwork E Elephant instead. This way I can use the same templates and have the kids to torn or cut paper squares into the elephant.

O Octopus

The kiddos in my class are used to seeing octopus tentacles being grilled on skewers in the market stalls, but making a crafty one wasn't too much of a stretch! I'm happy to report that as a class that data for letter recognition and phonetic sounds has jumped up greatly since I launched the letter collages.
